Detour Today -> Chickens

I love blogging about our wreath company www.jenswreaths.com, but once in awhile it's ok to detour.  Today is one of those days.  I ran across a blog:  http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/09/clever-chicks-blog-hop-1.html & I thought I'd share a little about my oldest son's passion for chickens.

Sam Jr. loves decorating, farming, and animals.  He's the type of kid that makes me stop and wonder at times, "Are those my genetics or his dad's?" He's extremely passionate about whatever he does.  When he was 3 years old, he was passionate about "Watermumpkins!"  In other words he liked Pumpkins and Watermelons and had helped daddy grow them in the garden.  He conveniently combined the words and talked about "Watermumpkins" constantly.  Then Sam Jr. phased into the Kangaroo era.  Yes, I drove his passionate little mind to the zoo to fullfill his fantasy of seeing a Kangaroo.  It didn't go very well, because it was 90+ degrees and the Kangaroos were too hot to hop.  Yep, that was a sad day.

Anyway, today Sam Jr. is a 7 year old who loves chickens!  We had our family photo's taken this past week and he had to get a picture of Blacky The Chicken.

He names all his chickens.  Rooster Gate is an interesting Araucana who crows on the gate every morning and the list goes on.....

When Sam Jr., is not being harassed by his younger brother and sister, we'll find him quietly looking through his newest Murray McMurray chicken catalog or seed catalog (flowers are a passion too).

Recently, Sam Jr. saved up all his egg money to invest in an incubator.  He hopes to hatch some of his own eggs into baby chicks soon.  What can I say?  The boy loves his chickens!
